Sunset at Iloilo Fort San Pedro

Fort San Pedro in Iloilo was built around 1616 to protect Iloilo from the Dutch forces and from occasional Moro Pirates invasion. Numerous wars, earthquakes and storms battered the fort until it was reduced to mere shambles. In it’s place stood the Fort San Pedro Park. The park finally met it’s sad demise as slum colonies now occupies it.
Despite the unsightly ruins and graffiti that plagued the Fort, you’ll forget about it once the sunset paints the sky in a fusion of vermillon and indigo colors. Strong winds in the area makes it an ideal place for the kids to fly their kites and for lovers to contemplate their future. I hope that the government will do some restoration to the area if they are earnest in promoting tourism in Iloilo. The fort has a great potential to be a tourist spot. Where else can you get a great unobstructed view of the sunset within the city area.
