Social Media

Social Media

The use of top social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram is not something foreign to Malaysians. According to research,  Malaysians are among the active users of social media and over 90% of them have their own Facebook accounts and smartphones to access the Internet.

Despite the wide usage of social media in Malaysia, recently there have been a lot of reports raised by certain users and it has caused quite a stir in the nation. People have been recording movies in the cinema and share the videos with their friends and followers using Instagram Story and Live feature. The Facebook users are not any better when they also use the Facebook latest feature, Facebook Live to record videos in the cinema and the videos will be shared directly with their friends and family.  Although there have been many PSA videos being put up by the local cinemas, people are still doing it. This could lead to the filmmakers especially the other country to no longer trust the Malaysians and fewer movies will be aired here.

Hence, social media users need to be smart in using social media because it has a lot of benefits. For example, the Messenger chat on Facebook should be used as a medium to stay connected and interact with family members and friends who live far away especially for those who live abroad. In fact, social media such as Facebook, Instagram or Twitter can also be used as a medium to find long lost childhood friends and who knows you might get a chance to meet with them and you can rekindle the memories you had before.

In addition, there are other advantages of social media for each other benefits such as to deliver and share the information about someone who needs financial assistance to undergo medical or surgical treatment. Nonetheless, it is the responsibility of the user to check and ensure the validity of the information before transmitting it. Think before you share online.
