Silay City Negros
Silay city is previously known as “The Paris of Negros” with the boom of Sugar trade . It all started when a French man planted sugar cane which soon transformed the small town into a sugar industry. From 1880-1930′s Silay city enjoyed its golden age due to the boom of sugar industry. The sprawling mansions sprouted in the town.
Silay’s History
In the 1900′s the town became the hub for European artists and musicians. Unfortunately the golden age of Silay city came to an end with the growth of Bacolod, massive destruction from World War II and finally the decline of sugar industry.
Silay Tourist Spots
Aside from grand ancestral mansions in Silay, there’s other places visitors can explore.
Hawaiian Philippine Sugar Company - Visitors can watch the process of harvesting sugarcanes included in the tour.
Victorias Milling Company - Used to be the world’s biggest mill from 1960′s -70′s. Dress codes are observed in premises, cameras, shorts, slippers are not allowed.
Church of St. Joseph the Worker - The church is known for its mural that inspired from the abstract art style of Jackson Pollock.
Patag National Park - This site is where a deadly battle during World War II took place. Hikers can trek the park and visit waterfalls in the area.
Silay Festival
Charter-day anniversary - A week long festival held from Jun 5-12.
San Diego Fiesta - Week long festival with colorful streetdancing.
Silay Travel
Traveling from Bacolod to Silay only takes 30 minutes via Bus or Jeepney.
