Salakayan Festival 2011 – Miagao Iloilo
It’s my third time in a row to experience the Salakayan Festival. The competing tribes consistently presents bigger and grander dance extravaganza. Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog graced the event to show support to Miag-ao’s Salakayan festival. Also present were the Kabayao Family. If ever you missed out on Dinagyang Festivities, there’s Salakayan Festival to check out. It’s definitely photographer’s paradise since photographers are very much welcome to take pictures of the event. I just wish that more of them are posting the photos to promote the festival.
Salakayan Festival is a week long festivity and celebration in Miag-ao. Salakayan Tribe competition is a showcase on how the local people in Miag-ao defends their town from Moro invasion. Visibly present are the Higantes in procession. In the old times, the higantes were used to scare off the Moro pirates.
