Revelry – A Festival of Chinese Dances at SM city iloilo
Iloilo Chinese Commercial High School presents Revelry, a festival of Chinese Dances and music. The event was held at SM City Iloilo. Special guest performers includes the Philippine Wushu Federation. The venue was filled with ICCH students and faculty as well as mall goers.
The performance starts with the much anticipated Chinese Dragon dance. The performing students underwent martial arts training to accomplish the movement required for the Dragon Dance. The Dragon looks vivid in scarlet red and gold yellow colors as they spiral around making it “fly” on air.
The Chinese Lion dance was performed next was comprised by two performers per lion. The Liu Bei Lions looks exotic with it’s gold, white trimmings and huge blinking eyes. The dance required dexterity and synchronization, a skill that requires martialarts training. The Lions pranced around with their huge eyes winking at the audience and standing on it’s leg making it even taller. After the dance, an impromptu Wushu exhibition was performed the by ICCHS students.
The Philippine Wushu Team demonstrated their agility, strenght and power through various Wushu moves. Dazzling beauty Francesca Bernasconi performed the broadsword routine flawlesslessly. She won the silver medal in World Junior Wushu Championship. Beijing Olympics gold medalist Willy Wang graced the event with his stellar performance.
After the action packed presentation, the students perfomed a musical and dance extravaganza. Traditional drums number as well as traditional flute was played with background pretty chinese dancer in blue and white dress.
The elementary students performed a marching routine clad in military uniform. Dancers in pink costume shows off their flexibility. The dancers in scarlet and black performed a chinese folk dance that consists of a jig and hop.
The dancers in yellow and green dress performed a traditional courtship dance. The next performance was arabian inspired dance, unfortunately one performer slipped on the slippery stage. The colorful fan dance performer brightened the stage with their deep scarlet red costume as they performed a courtship dance.
For the grand finale, a golden traditional siam dance performance was presented with their costumes glittering on stage. The Iloilo Chinese Commercial High School Students gave a spectacular performance that afternoon. I’ll certainly look forward to their next performance.
