Plaza Libertad Iloilo

Plaza Libertad lives up to its name as the plaza where ilonggos liberated themselves from the spanish rule. The San Jose Parish grandly faces the plaza. The city government made sure that plaza is well maintained with sprawling acacia trees and basketball court. The statue of National Hero Jose Rizal stood at the heart of Plaza Libertad. Without a doubt this plaza is a romantic place for couples on a date. Even at night, the plaza looks spectacular with its well lighted walkways and benches.
Plaza Libertad History
Plaza Libertad was formerly known as Plaza Alfonso XII. The plaza has a significant part in history when the last Spanish Governor-general surrendered in December 1898.
