MV Doulos docks in Bacolod and Manila

MV Doulous, is currently the oldest active ocean-faring passenger ship in the world and only 2 year younger than the Titanic. More famously known as the biggest “Floating Bookstore”. Sadly, the ship is on it’s final year of the world tour before the scheduled de-commission on 2010.
From February 13 – March 2, the MV Doulos will dock at the port of Bacolod and will open at the following schedule. After that the ship will proceed to Manila on March 5-31 2009.
Sun-Mon: 2 pm – 9pm
Tue-Sat: 10 am – 9 pm
Sun-Mon: 2pm – 9 pm.
I remember the ship visited the Iloilo port at least once every two years when I was in Grade 1 and then Grade 3. My parents used to buy us tha coloring books, disney books and paper dolls. The last time the ship docked at Iloilo was back in 1992. I was 11 years old back then and I whined and wore down my mom over the book “Complete Works of Lewis Carroll” until she drove back to buy it. So now it’s my mom that does the whining until I wore down and bring her to the movies. I really have no idea why they skipped on Iloilo port after that.
This morning my sister and I went to Bacolod and visit the ship for the last time after 17 years. We were impressed at how clean and spacious the Bacolod reclamation port is. When we reached the ship, the line wasn’t really that long since it was near lunch. We even had to act as Guardians for the renegade students. Being inside the vessel brings back the nostalgic memories. The nutty teacher right beside our line was blurting out colorful language at her hard to control students
For the books, I think the good ones are sold out. Mostly the available books catered to the kids, Christians, health conscious and food fanatic. I was hoping for some rare english literature like complete works of Oscar Wilde, Celtic Mythology and etc. I end up buying home remedy book and keychain souvenir. My sister on the other hand enjoyed her stash of books and cds. I’m hoping that MV Doulos retirement would be delayed or put off.
I wished we had stayed a bit longer at Bacolod though since we haven’t explored much about the city. Anyway enjoy the pictures.
