Pintados de pasi is a weeklong festival that celebrates the foundation of their city. The Tribal Dance is the main event of the festival. The dancers shows off their intricately tattooed bodies as they performs the cultural past of the Passinhons.

I meet up with Iloilo bloggers namely eric, bernie, efren, junelle, mary jane and nicole, so we can all go to the festival together. This was my first time to witness Pintados de Pasi and also my first time to visit the city. The tickets costs only 100 pesos, which is quite reasonable. For spectators, I highly recommend watching the Tribe competition at the Gymnasium. For photo enthusiasts and media, the outdoor judging area gives great vantage point and better natural lighting. I would really thank the Pintados de Pasi Organizer staff for letting us sit in the judging area even if I didn’t have with me any sort of media pass. Although the Tribal dance competition was supposed to start at 8am, it started past 9:30. Maybe next time they’ll shorten the time allocated in acknowledging the VIP’s.

I can’t comment much on the tribal dance since I haven’t seen the previous performance. But I DID like the integration of Eskrima/Arnis in their performances. I’m really bothered that one tribe used Rattan sticks. Just a tip, Arnis is a martial arts that uses bladed weapons, sticks are for practice. I need to clarify that as an arnis practitioner. I hope that we’ll be seeing Pintados de Pasi participate in next year’s Kasadyahan. Overall, the groups gave an energetic, artistic and heartfelt performance. I even saw one of the dancers shed real tears  during their dance. Now that’s something I don’t see in most festivals! I’m certainly look forward going there next year since the “sinadya sa suba” looks fun.
