Iloilo Paraw Regatta 2010 Main event – Paraw Racing
Colorful paraw sailboats peppered the shores of Sto. Nino Sur Arevalo beach for the 38th Paraw Regatta sailboat racing. The participants are comprised of fisherfolks from different towns of Iloilo, Guimaras and Negros Occidental. There’s two categories in Paraw racing which are category A and B. The Category A Sailboats has the waterlength from 16 feet and below. The Category B Sailboats has the lenght of 16.1 feet up to 22 feet.
Specials guests were introduced at the opening program. Finally, the race starts with Category A Sailboats. Then the Category B Sailboats glides along with the loud beatings of the drum. The sailboats looks spectacular afar as they gracefully glide on the sea .
Paraw Regatta Insights
This was my second time to witness the event, I was able to purchase the ticket. You can get a great view at the race when you’re at the stage. Much to everyone’s amusement, there’s a minor blooper at the start of the race when there’s delay in firecrackers signal.
While waiting for the race to finish, you’ll be treated to lavish extravagant dance competition “Samba de Regatta”. Aside from the race, there’s other side events such as beach volleyball competition, pinta tawo and etc. The mouth watering seafoods fest along the road of sto. nino sur are so enticing.
