Hiyas Sg Iloilo 2009 – Pageant & Coronation night at Iloilo Cap Auditorium

Thirteen lovely ilonggas candidates vie for the Hiyas ng Iloilo 2009 crown at Iloilo CAP Auditorium last January 21, 2009 evening. Only one will be crowned “Hiyas ng Iloilo”. The lovely ladies looked lovely with their Maria Clara inspired dresses sponsored by Susan Ong. Prof. Roger Delosde and Beauty Queen Winlove Dupit were the hosts for the evening. It was a night of musical and dance extravaganza.

The candidates briefly introduced a little about themselves before making an exit from the stage. As the curtain rises, the candidates presented a vibrant Carnival in Rio. Each of them wearing extravagant headpiece and colorful costumes. In a flash, you’re quickly transported to Rio de Janeiro.
For the intermission, the abs cbn dance talent gave a comedic tribal dance routine. It was a riot watching the tribe leader presenting an impromptu magic number as well as suggestive dance moves. Afterwards, a slideshow presentation of the contestants gives the audience a closer look. The contestants appeared on stage in their swimsuits in time for Sponsor Awards.

Wearing their elegant gown designed by Nic Nic Manderico, the contestants braced themselves for the final interview. The ladies delivered their answers eloquently and confidently. Thankfully none of them had the “Janina San Miguel” syndrome. Stephanie Evans stood out with the interview portion by delivering her answer in Hiligaynon.
An intermission number was performed by Male belly dancer Joven Cablas. He brings belly dancing to a new level. It was impressive to see him gyrate his hips. Contrary to popular belief that belly dancing is exclusive to female, the artform is also practiced by males as well. He did few balancing acts and glow in the dark poi moves. Then the five finalists were announced.

Susan Ong was also given a Plaque of Appreciation for the Maria Clara gowns.

Yup, I think Gladys Pacete should have gotten the Iloilo Queen crown. I was puzzled when Erika Estrivillo got it, she DIDN’T BAG ANY SPECIAL AWARDS!!!
