Active Vista Film Festival 2010 in Iloilo

Active Vista Film Festival 2010 in Iloilo presents “Pisay” movie at UP theatre. The director of the film Auraeus Solito was present for quick Q&A at the end of the film screening. Also present at the screening is Tado where he gave a quick introduction and impromptu speech on “Dakila” organization he co-founded with artists such as Lourd de Veyra, Buhawi Meneses, Noel Cabangon and Ronnie Lazaro.

Pisay movie transports the audience back to the turbulent times of Martial Law. The story follows the life of eight students in Philippines Science High School. Their campus life parallels to what’s happening outside the campus. They are bound to censorship, segregation and discrimination according to their grade rankings. Natural selection comes into play as students were dismissed from the school when they fail to reach the school standard. Students find themselves making a choice between what the school expects of them and what they truly want for their life.
Pisay Movie Trailer
For outsiders, the movie gives us a glimpse of not so average students in Philippine Science Highschool. One couldn’t help but feel envious that the students gets to enjoy the privilege of getting quality education for free. Much of the movie characters are actually based on real life people who were in batch 86 of Phil Sci. The movie serves as an inspiration to all students who are facing the same dilemmas in life. Grades doesn’t always define a person, like the kid who got dismissed in Pisay for low grades later on had a high paying job in the Middle east. I thoroughly enjoyed the film for being realistic, beautifully crafted, smooth cinematography and well-timed sense of humor.

Students from different schools attended the film screening. They all reacted positively to the movie. I hope that the movie gives them inspiration that they need as they too will step into the next challenge of their lives.
